Biography

Iddo van der Giessen (1995) has been playing the organ since the age of six, when he was taught by his father Jaap van der Giessen, as well as by Ronald de Jong in Zoetermeer. In 2018, Iddo graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, having been a student of Jos van der Kooy, with a complete recital of English organ music. Iddo presently continues his studies for the degree of Master of Music with Jos van der Kooy, with Hayo Boerema in improvisation, and in Liturgical Music at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam with Aart Bergwerff, Hanna Rijken and Arie Hoek. Iddo has attended masterclasses with, among others, Ludger Lohmann and Leo van Doeselaar.

In 2016 he graduated cum laude from the Leiden University College in The Hague, where he studied Liberal Arts & Sciences: Global Challenges with a major in World Politics. Since 2018 he continues his studies at Leiden University as a Research Master in History specializing in Politics, Culture and National Identities.

In 2017 Iddo van der Giessen performed all the trio sonatas of Bach and organ sonatas of Mendelssohn in a series of six concerts performed on the organ of the Westerkerk in Amsterdam.

Since that year, he has been Cantor and Organist at the Protestant congregation of the Goede Herderkerk in Rotterdam, where he recorded the CD 'Wachet auf!' with trombonist Joram van Ketel in 2018.
